Jaisalmer stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone in midst of vast Thar Desert. The city is crowded with massive forts, palace and Jain temples. Jaisalmer is popularly called ad the "Golden City of India" because the yellow sand gives a yellowish-golden hue to the city and its surrounding area. Sonar Quila or Golden Fort is the major landmark of Jaisalmer. The desert city of Jaisalmer is also famous for thrilling sand dunes and exciting camel safaris. The city is very rich in its culture and heritage. Jaisalmer is located in very remote from main transportation access but is famous for many artistic structures and monuments of local historical importance.

Attractions of Jaisalmer :

Havelis of Jaisalmer : some of the famous havelis of Jaisalmer are salim-Singh-ki-Haveli, Patwon-ki-Haveli, and Nathmalji-ki-Havei, Mehra Haveli and Haveli Shreenath. These havelis are famous for gorgeous archways, alluring alcoves, sizeable rooms opening onto small balconies and rich natural ambiance.

Jaisalmer Fort : Jaisalmer Fort is the famous tourist attraction in Jaisalmer. It is a magnificent monument being the second oldest fort in Rajasthan. It is grandly called as "Sonar Quila" or Golden Fort. It is five-storied fort whose balconies have a wonderful masonry work done. The interiors have been built and painted in Rajput styles.

Gadsisar Lake : This Lake is scenic rainwater lake surrounded by small temples and shrines. It is one of the most beautiful attractions in the city. One can view numerous migratory birds during the winter season.

Tazia Tower : Tajia tower is a pagoda like structure looming up from the ‘Badal Mahal’ and is well-known for exquisitely carved galleries on each storey.

Jain heritage : The city has beautiful Jain temples. There are many Jain pilgrimage centre around Jaisalmer. Some of them are Lodarva, Amarsagar, Brahmsar and Pokharan.
